The Harvester Returns

On February 22, 2012, the harvester was return to us after some much needed repairs to the hull were performed by Aquatic Environments. A crew of volunteers showed up at Lamperti's cove to help reassemble and launch the harvester.
They then went down to Keys Landing and spent several hours performing an evaluation of a mobile conveyor to see if it would be useful in loading azolla into trucks which could then drive it to local disposal sites.

Keys Landing Cleanup

Several days in March saw the volunteers working to cut down trees and cleanup old brush, trash, etc. at the Keys Landing launch ramp. This will make it much easier during the rest of the year to utilize this area in our ongoing efforts to keep the channels usable and as clean as possible.

2012- Harvester Maintenance

A group of volunteers headed up by Dennis Locke and Scott Drew spent many hours in April and May doing preventative maintenance on the harvester in preparation for the 2012 season. Hydraulic rams and hoses were replaced or repaired as needed as well as lubrication of all fittings. and replacement of worn engine belts. The crew also replaced the damaged conveyor chains and fabricated some need parts to prevent a recurrence of the damage. These folks saved us thousands of dollars in labor charges which would have had to been paid to outside repair companies. The community certainly owes these volunteers a large gesture of appreciation. So please be sure and acknowledge them whenever you have the chance. Also, a big thank you to Bud Lepp for allowing us to use his property and facilities during this effort.

Boom Installation at end of East Channel

On April 25, a volunteer work party of 6 people spent the morning assembling and installing a boom located at the mouth of the East Channel. The boom extends from the mid-channel marker (piling with speed limit sign) to the south jetty at Lamperti's cove. This is the first of several planned installations which are intended to help mitigate the problems we have experienced the past several years with Azolla and Lyngbya.

Wendy the Weed Queen

Wendy and Scott Drew make it happen on their regular harvester shift. They pick up weeds harvested by property owners and left on their docks as well as using the machine to clean up the channels in zone 2.

Tree Removal

On June 21 and 22, a volunteer work party removed six large logs and trees which were presenting a hazard to navigation.
The large pieces were towed to the Keys Landing launch ramp where they were cut into smaller sections and then hauled off.
The POA wishes to acknowledge the contributions of the Van Pelt family for allowing us to dispose of our many loads of material removed from the channels.
